Anyone who is an amateur radio operator has heard the horror stories regarding CCR's and amateur radio antennas. We now have a chance to do something about the situation, if we all spend a few minutes letting our congressman know we need his support.

H.R. 1478 is a bill before Congress sponsored by Rep. Steve Israel of New York. The bill is to provide that private land use rules be treated as State or local regulations for purposes of certain Federal Communications Commission regulations. What the means is simple - if the bill gets passed, home owners associations can no longer disallow amateur radio antennas. Full text of the bill is here.

Please take 10 minutes of your time to read this page and send an email or letter (better yet, send both) to your representative in Congress.

What you can do to help get the bill passed is simple:

1. Go to www.House.Gov and put in your zip code to find your congressional representative.

2. Check this web site to see if he is a sponsor of H.R. 1478.

3. If he or she is not, send them an email or write them a letter (or both) asking them to cosponsor the bill. A sample letter is here - copy and paste it into your email program or word processor.

4. Find the web site for your congressman here. On the congressman's web site, find the contact information and email him your letter.

5. Send him a copy of your letter via postal mail.
